Ages of Sun Worship and its Diffusion

A reader of this blog named Jayasree Saranathan had made another blog entry linked to the earlier posting of Pretty Ladies and the Indus Script on this blog. The link to the new posting is at:

But the most interesting part of Jayasree's posting was his map for the spread of sunworshipping cultures. This I thought was analogous to James Churchward's "Empire of the Sun" (Mu) but it also made references to several other points of interest. the original map is:

And my addtions to the map make Map #2

Which takes further pains to indicate that the circumAtlantic cultures form a secondary set from the circum Indian and circumPacific cultures. I also suggested that Jayasree's originating point was contiguous to Sundaland (and I left that comment on the other blog. On the bottom timescale I have indicated three points of interest: the first being the oldest Out-of-Africa event and the approximate date for the mitochondrial DNA split between the South-Asian and North-Asian populations: the middle event is the explosion of the Toba volcano on Sumatra which seems to have created a bottleneck in human populations (detectable genetically) and the more recent date indicated on the bottom timescale is the Y-DNA indicated date for the separation of NorthAsiatic and SouthAsiatic populations. The SouthAsiatics include the Australian Aboriginals and most of the Pacific Islanders, and the NorthAsiatics include the Europeans and most of the American Aboriginals. the mtDNA lines are the oldest indicated common female ancestors and the Y-DNA lines indicate the oldest common male ancestors (there is that much of a difference)
Above, the Newsweek issue that broke the story of Genetic Eve. The story of the two Ourt of Africa migrations is told fairly simply by the skulls: this is the skull number 5 from the cave of Skhul, Palestine (it was Palestine at the time of discovery) an estimated 110000 years old and similar to the more rugged type of Australian Aboriginals. The skull found below is a recent find from South Africa that is very similar to the earliest modern Europeans ar about 45000 years ago and representative of the second Out Of Africa movement, starting about 60000 years ago. The difference is easily accounted for: both types originated in Africa and separated about a hundred thousand years ago. One branch moved out to South Asia then, and their relatives left behind in africa eventually died out without modern descendants. The group that split off was the group which stayed behind and eventually emerged (partially) in the second Out of Africa movement. And the illustration of the Newsweek cover is fair enough as representing the second division.

In Africa the date of 200,000 BC is the approximate date of "Eve" the common female ancestor of all human beings. This is much, much older than any fossils of recognisable modern humans. 100,000 and 60000 are two dates of Out Of Africa movements that can be determined genetically and by fossils. The morphology of the skulls are different in these two migrations, but both must have integrated later. The two movements are pre-and post-Toba. There are some indications that some of the older migrants from Africa had passed into Australia before the explosion and survived it thee, and that  some of the SouthAsiatics tht found refuge next to the mountain areas survived the aftereffects of the explosian and then recolonised the depopulated areas, using much the same types of stone tools. These would be the ones that carried foreward the older mtDNA: The NorthAsian mtDNA group is recent enough that it can be conveniently counted as travelling Out of Africa with the post-Toba Y-DNA crowd (once again, there is that much genetic difference) The males out of the later group intermarried with the females of the older survivors in SouthAsia: any females of the same movement would not stand out from the sample as being genetically distinctive. (My opinion is however that they are certainly morphologically distinctive): they also moved on to Australia and interbred with the ancestors of the Pacific Islanders.

Which brings up another theory which coincides with the idea of Ages of the Sun: it just so happens that the period about 10000 BC, the last Age of the Sun indicated as important on Jayasree's chart, was ruled by the sign whose ruler is the sun according to Western Astrology. That was the Age of Leo on the precession of the Equinoxes, when the spring came in the sign of Leo. There has been a longstanding subversive idea that the great Sphynx at Giza was originally a lion statue and that it was carved in the Age of Leo: more than one author has called it the only reliable monument remaining from that era (Serpent in the Sky,John Anthony West following Schwaller de Lubicz; independantly by Cosa de Loverdo and others)

Sphinx at Giza, Egypt

The Great Sphinx at Giza, Egypt clearly shows signs of water erosion on its sides and on the sides of the area it has been cut into. The age of heavy rainfall and flooding that high in the Nile has been measured geologically as at least 9000 years old, Therefore the sphinx had to have been built some long years before that flooding occuredThe head also would have been recarved later, as its surface does not match the surface of the rest of it.
This does not stop here, it only begins here. The Egyptians had indicated to the Greeks that not only were they aware of the Precession of the Equinoxes, but that they had tracked it for a cycle and a half before their time. That would have meant the observations went back to about 35000 years ago. This at least agrees generally with Alexander Marshak's Cromagnon records of Astronomical observations. (The Roots of Civilization) That age would also have been the prior age of Leo and ruled by its Astrological Ruler, The Sun.

And it seems that the Sundalanders might have been sunworshippers and using the sun as their emblem that far back. I cannot say that this is absolutely verified by Archaeology, only that tradition seems to point to that. And there seems to have been a very old expansion of Sundalanders that far back: it would correspond to the estimated age of migrations for people with "Australoid" skulls showing up in Eastern Europe and the Americas about then. Of course this is also widely denied and controversial: but the figure of 35000 years ago does keep popping up in the literature. And although we have little evidence for what heavenly bodies people were looking at in those days, it does seem we have something in the way of direct evidence they were watching the sun and the moon (from Marshak and such sources)

And the next prior age of Leo, ruled by the Sun, would have been about 60000 BC, the time of the Post-Toba Out of Africa movement and the documentable Y-DNA migration. Possibly patriarchal Sun-Worshippers, it is at least possible from what we can infer otherwise. The manifold Great....grandparents of the Egyptian Sunworshippers of Ancient times. Which seems fantastic but there is at least the connection.

Best Wishes, Dale D.

And it seems the earlier blog posting about the origins of Patriarchy, sun-worship, cranial deformation and all as one cultural package is also appropriate, because the earlier periods of Saharan Desertification seems to habe brought about similar parallel results at different times:
